Who we are

The MIT Institute for Worldmaking is a lab dedicated to advancing Arab futures through developing tools for research and strategic cultural production. Based at MIT and operating globally, our projects shape public space, design new knowledge systems, and inform emerging technologies. Our work spans education, AI, architecture, and publishing — creating infrastructures that support collective imagination, cultural equity, and institutional change.

We are building nuanced datasets that center underrepresented cultural knowledge, and developing pedagogies that treat storytelling as future infrastructure. By engaging students in hands-on research, collaborative authorship, and fieldwork across the Arab world, we cultivate new models for education and publishing. Our work celebrates the diversity of Arab cultural production — not as a legacy to archive, but as a living system shaping the future.
